Sheikh Muhammad Arif Abbasi, a Khorasani Sufi of the 16th century, born in Kardeh near Mashhad. Because he earned his living stitching pack-saddles (palandozi), he became known as 'Pir-e Palandooz'; also a calligrapher and a man of learning. His onion-domed mausoleum near the Imam Reza shrine was completed in the Safavid era (1577) and is visited. (Sources: Wikipedia 'Tomb of Pir Palandouz'; Iranian heritage records.)
