Currently open: 1,116 people · 566 places · 38 sources · 94 external identifier links.
What is open
- · Permanent identifier (EA-Z / EA-Y / EA-K) and its address — stays the same even if the record is renamed.
- · Name and honorific in four languages; machine-translated languages are flagged.
- · Birth and death year (Gregorian and Hijri; Hijri month and day where known).
- · Tomb/shrine link and location (latitude/longitude), country and city.
- · Citations: work, author, year, volume, page, entry and link, with the work's permanent identifier.
- · Wikidata and TDV Encyclopedia of Islam addresses accepted by an editor's decision.
- · The record's review status (same definition as the trust card on the record page).
What is not open, and why
Narrative texts are not covered by this licence. Their relationship to the sources and their copyright status are being reviewed record by record; until that review is finished we cannot grant others the right to republish them. You can read them on the site.

Monthly dump
All open data is produced once a month as a single file (gzipped JSON) and never changed afterwards; a given month is always the same file. Cite the month and its sha256 digest.

Agent interface (MCP)
AI assistants can read the atlas through the Model Context Protocol. The interface is read-only and serves only the factual data on this page; every answer carries the record's address, its citations and the licence, and records without citations are not passed on. An assistant's own commentary is not our record.
