Founder and first Sultan of the Banten Sultanate (r. c. 1552â1570). Son of Sunan Gunung Jati of the Wali Songo, he is known as the figure who spread Islam to Banten, extending its influence to Lampung and making Banten a major pepper port (en.wikipedia, "Maulana Hasanuddin of Banten"; Wikidata Q3384157). He belonged to the Azmatkhan sayyid lineage. His tomb lies in the royal complex on the north side of the Great Mosque of Banten in Banten Lama (Serang) and is a major pilgrimage destination.
