Ebussuud Efendi (1490-1574), the most celebrated Ottoman Şeyhülislâm of the era of Süleyman the Magnificent, a Hanafi jurist and exegete who held office for about twenty-eight years and harmonized sharia with state law. Author of the commentary 'İrşadü'l-akli's-selim,' he is buried beside the madrasa he founded near the Eyüp Sultan Mosque. (Sources: TDV; Wikidata.)
