Great mathematician, astronomer, philosopher and poet (famous for his quatrains) of Nishapur. A pioneer in the geometric solution of cubic equations and the Jalali calendar. He died at Nishapur c. 517/1131 and was buried southeast of the city. His present mausoleum, designed by Hooshang Seyhoun (1963), is a major site. (Sources: TDV; Wikipedia.)
