One of the great Sufis of Khorasan, an ascetic and author known as 'Zhende-Pil'. He left Persian works on Sufism and ethics and is a major representative of the Sunni mystical tradition. He died in 536/1141 and was buried in the town now named after him, Torbat-e Jam. The shrine-mosque complex has been visited for centuries. (Sources: TDV; Encyclopaedia Iranica.)
