Qutb al-Din Mawdud Chishti was an early master of the Chishti silsila, son and successor of his teacher Abu Yusuf ibn Saman. He was known for refusing contact with rulers and the wealthy and spent some twenty years in seclusion. He died around 527 AH/1133 CE (one tradition gives 533/1139) at Chisht-e Sharif in Herat province and was buried there.
