Abu al-Najib Ziya al-Din Abd al-Qahir al-Bakri al-Suhrawardi (c. 490/1097, Suhraward – 563/1168, Baghdad) was a great Sufi who taught at the Nizamiyya of Baghdad; author of Adab al-Muridin, he is the key link where the Suhrawardi and Khalwati chains converge. He received the cloak from his uncle Qadi Wajih al-Din Umar; his chief successor was Qutb al-Din al-Abhari. He was buried in the cemetery of his own madrasa on the Tigris in Baghdad; as the exact present-day site cannot be identified, no coordinates are given.
