Süleyman Hilmi Tunahan (1888 Silistra – 1959 Istanbul) was one of the last Ottoman-trained Sunni scholars and a Naqshbandi-Khalidi/Mujaddidi sheikh. Educated in the classical Ottoman madrasa tradition, he preached in Istanbul's mosques during the Republican era and from the 1940s onward established circles of students teaching the Qur'an and religious sciences under difficult conditions. The community that formed around him grew into a wide network of Qur'an courses and student lodges across Turkey and Western Europe. He died on 16 September 1959 and was buried in the Karacaahmet Cemetery in Üsküdar, where his grave is a frequented place of visitation.
