Born in 1872, the Indian-British barrister and scholar Abdullah Yusuf Ali is the author of 'The Holy Qur'an: Text, Translation and Commentary' (1934), one of the most widely read English translations and commentaries among English-speaking Muslims. He wrote numerous works on Islam. He died in London on 10 December 1953 and was buried in the Muslim section of Brookwood Cemetery, where his grave is now marked on an interpretive trail.
