Also known as 'Mbah Manab', the founding scholar of Pesantren Lirboyo in Kediri. Born around 1856, he studied for some 23 years at various pesantren before settling in Lirboyo village in 1910 with his wife Siti Khadijah, founding what became one of Indonesia's largest pesantren. He died in 1954 (21 Ramadan 1374) and is buried behind the Lawang Songo mosque at Lirboyo. His grave is widely visited.
