A murshid of the Qadiriyya wa Naqshbandiyya order and the second custodian of Pesantren Darul Ulum in Rejoso, Jombang. Born in 1888 in Bangkalan, Madura, he composed the istighatsah litany widely recited by Nahdliyin and was a noted authority in Sufism. He died on 6 April 1958 (16 Ramadan 1377) in Rejoso and is buried in the pesantren cemetery at Peterongan; his grave is especially visited by disciples.
