Şeyh Fethullah Hamidi was a religious scholar and Sufi born in 1873 in the village of Kayapınar (Aynkaf) in the Gercüş district. He belonged to a scholarly family of Prophetic descent with roots in Siirt; his grandfather Hamid Mardini was born in Siirt in 1802 and his father İbrahim Hamidi settled in Kayapınar. Known for the importance he gave to education, he taught students at the Aynkaf Madrasa in the 1940s and was renowned for his tolerance and efforts to establish peace in the region. He died in April 1947 in Sulan village of Beşiri district, and his tomb lies in his birthplace, Kayapınar (Aynkaf). (Sources: Evliyalar.net; Siirt Haberci.)
