Syekh Dr. Abdul Karim Amrullah (Haji Rasul / "Inyiak DR," 1879–1945), born in Maninjau, Agam, was a reformist (Kaum Muda) scholar and the father of Buya Hamka. He founded Sumatera Thawalib and in 1926 received an honorary doctorate from Al-Azhar. He died in Jakarta in 1945; his remains were later moved to his home village of Sungai Batang, Maninjau, where his tomb, now with an attached library, is a visited site.
