Born on 17 November 1909 in the village of Akdoğan (Yukarı Hopşera) in the Çaykara district of Trabzon. His father, Mehmed Zeki Efendi, was martyred on the Sarıkamış front in World War I. A Republican-era müderris and preacher affiliated with the Naqshbandi-Khalidi order, he taught for many years at the madrasa in his village. He died in his native village in 1982.
