Habib Umar bin Ahmad bin Sumayt was a Sufi scholar of the Ba'Alawi sayyid lineage who served as teacher and qadi in Madagascar, Zanzibar, and the Comoros. Born in the Comoros in 1303 AH (1886), he died on 9 Safar 1396 (1976), aged 92. He is buried in Moroni in the domed tomb (qubba) of his grandfather, Habib Abu Bakr bin Sumayt.
