Sheikh Abdul Wahab Rokan (1811–1926) was among the foremost mursyid (spiritual guides) of the Naqshbandi–Khalidi order in Riau and East Sumatra across the 19th–20th centuries. Having received his ijazah from Sheikh Sulaiman Zuhdi, he bore the title al-Khalidi an-Naqsyabandi. In 1883, on land endowed by the Sultan of Langkat, he founded the village of Babussalam (Besilam) complete with a mosque and lodge. His grave, beside the Babussalam Mosque, draws thousands of pilgrims from across Asia each year at his death anniversary (haul).
