El Hadj Malick Sy ('Maodo') was the scholar who founded the Sy branch of the Tijaniyya in Senegal, spreading the order through teaching. He died on 27 June 1922 in Tivaouane, where he had settled around 1898. His mausoleum and zawiya were classified as a national historic monument in 2003.
