Born in Urfa in 1783, he became sheikh of the Haliliyya branch of the Qadiri order. He guided disciples for many years (about 70) at the lodge within the Mevlid-i Halil (Dergah) Mosque, dying in 1883. His tomb is in the enclosed graveyard in the courtyard of the Mevlid-i Halil Mosque, containing eight graves of him and his family.
