A Sufi saint of the Ba'Alawi sayyid line of Hadhramaut, raised in Penang/Kedah and settled in Singapore around 1819 for some 47 years. Renowned for piety, generosity and reported karamat, he is described by scholar Torsten Tschacher as Singapore's most popular saint. By tradition his coffin became immovable until his wish to be buried atop Mount Palmer was honored. He died in 1283 AH / 1866 CE and lies in a domed mausoleum within the Masjid Haji Muhammad Salleh complex (refurbished 1890 by the Alsagoff family).
