From the Shibli family of the Dershev tribe, he completed studies in Muş and received Naqshbandi authorization from Sheikh Salih al-Subki. He settled in Altunakar village of Çınar, founding a madrasa drawing students from the Middle East and Caucasus. His tomb was built in 1298/1880; his sons are also buried there.
