Full name Said Abdurakhmanovich Atsaev, he was one of Dagestan's most influential Naqshbandi-Shadhili shaykhs and a leading Shafi'i scholar from the 1980s onward. Orphaned young, he worked as a shepherd and firefighter before beginning religious study at 32. On 28 August 2012 he was killed by a female suicide bomber at his home.
