One of the most influential Sufi authors of the Ba 'Alawi tradition, based in Tarim; he composed the widely recited Ratib al-Haddad and Wird al-Latif. Though he lost his sight in childhood, he produced a vast body of scholarship and devotional literature. He died in 1132/1720 at al-Hawi near Tarim and was buried in the Zanbal cemetery of Tarim.
