A Sufi born in Bengal (1826) regarded as the founder of the Maizbhandari order, the only indigenous Sufi tariqa to have originated within the Bengal region. Traced to the Qadiri lineage, he combined madrasa scholarship with Sufi practice and local Bengali devotional expression. He died on 23 January 1906 in his native village of Maizbhandar, Fatikchhari, Chittagong, and was buried there. His tomb forms the Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif, one of Bangladesh's largest pilgrimage centres, hosting an annual urs attended by hundreds of thousands.
