The great Sufi Abu Yazid Tayfur b. Isa al-Bistami, known as 'Sultan al-arifin'. With his states of mystical intoxication and annihilation and ecstatic utterances he marked a turning point in Sufism, a foundational figure of the Khorasani tradition. He died at Bastam c. 261/875.
