Abu Sa'id Sahnun ibn Sa'id al-Tanukhi (d. 240/854), the greatest representative of the Maliki school in North Africa and compiler of al-Mudawwana. Educated by students of Imam Malik, he pioneered the spread of Maliki jurisprudence across the Maghreb and al-Andalus; he served as qadi of Kairouan and was buried there.
