A leading shaykh of the Naqshbandi order in the North Caucasus and a prominent figure of the Caucasian War resistance who predated Imam Shamil. Born in Endirey, he became imam of Chechnya from 1834 and served as a mudir and governor under Shamil, losing the election for Imam of Dagestan to Shamil by a single vote. He settled in Sayasan, where he lived until his death there in 1843. His tomb in Sayasan, Nozhay-Yurtovsky District, is one of Chechnya's recognised ziyarat.
