Gazi Ömer Bey was the son of the frontier lord Gazi Turahan Bey, conqueror of the Morea, and a leading commander of Mehmed the Conqueror's era; he fought at Otlukbeli (1473). He built a mosque in Malkara in 893/1488 and died in 908 (October 1502). His octagonal dressed-stone tomb in his mosque's courtyard in central Malkara is open to visitors.
