Hacı I Giray (d. 1466), founder of the Crimean Khanate, established his residence at Salaçık near Çufut Qale; his son Mengli I Giray built this octagonal cut-stone dürbe in 1501 (alongside the adjacent Zincirli Medrese). Hacı Giray, Mengli Giray (d. 1515) and dozens of members of the khan family are interred here. Although a dynastic structure, Crimean khans were regarded as holding sacral standing and the site is a revered Muslim mausoleum complex.
