A Sufi figure of 15th-16th century Java whose very historicity is debated (regarded by some scholars as semi-legendary; d. c. 1517, date uncertain). He is associated with the doctrine of manunggaling kawula-Gusti (union of servant and Lord), likened to wahdat al-wujud and the 'ana al-Haqq' tradition. Some Javanese texts count him among the Wali Songo while others place him in conflict with them and the Demak Sultanate; according to tradition he was tried and executed by fellow walis for teaching esoteric doctrine publicly.
