Umm Haram bint Milhan (Hala Sultan)

Umm Haram bint Milhan was a female Companion (sahabiyya) of the Medinan Ansar, of the Najjar clan of Banu Khazraj, regarded as a foster-aunt/relative of the Prophet and married to the Companion Ubada ibn al-Samit. She nursed wounded soldiers and transmitted the famous hadith — recorded in both Bukhari and Muslim — in which the Prophet foretold a Muslim naval expedition. She joined that first sea campaign against Cyprus under Caliph Uthman (28-29 AH / 648-649 CE), fell from her mount on disembarking, died, and was buried on the island. The Hala Sultan Tekke near Larnaca's Salt Lake is venerated as her tomb, though the specific grave identification is a traditional/devotional attribution dating only to the 18th century — the historical record confirms only her participation in the expedition and her death on Cyprus.
