A 13th-14th century Sufi missionary associated with spreading Islam in the Varendra region of northern Bengal, said to have arrived from Baghdad and founded khanqahs. Banglapedia dates his death to 27 Rajab 713 AH (1313); a minority folk tradition cites 1592 (aged 117). The shrine was monumentalised in the Mughal period and the annual urs falls on 27 Rajab.
