He hailed from Ramitan near Bukhara; in the Khwajagan chain he is the successor of Mahmud Faghnawi, known by the titles 'Khwaja Azizan' and 'Khwaja-i Buzurg'. A weaver by trade, he practised both vocal and silent dhikr; the chain continued through his successor Muhammad Baba Sammasi. He died in 721 AH (1321 CE); his burial place is disputed: Naqshbandi tradition points to Khwarazm (Konye-Urgench, Turkmenistan), where he migrated late in life, while Uzbek sources regard the shrine at Ramitan as the true grave — as no single cross-verified location exists, no pin is given.
