A sayyid of Khurasani origin and a disciple of Nizamuddin Awliya (d. 731/1330); he was the father of the celebrated Chishti shaykh Sayyid Muhammad Gesudaraz (Banda Nawaz). The TDV Encyclopedia of Islam explicitly states that Gesudaraz's father was Sayyid Yusuf al-Husayni, known as Sayyid Raju al-Qattal, who died in 731/1330 (TDV, "Gßsûdırùz"). The epithet "Qattal" (slayer) refers to slaying worldly desire through austerity. His tomb is at Khuldabad. Note: the name "Shah Raju Qattal" is conflated across several figures in the literature (notably a later Shah Raju Qattal II of Hyderabad, d. 1092/1681); this record documents only Gesudaraz's father per TDV.
