According to Iranica, the Chor Bakr necropolis near the village of Sumitan (Samtin), about 5 km outside the Shirgaran Gate of Bukhara, grew up around his venerated tomb; the Juybari shaikhs were the custodians of this tomb. Died 360 H/970.
Differing Scholarly Views
Sources differ on his date: Iranica ČĀR BAKR (Pugachenkova), BUKHARA iii (Bregel, citing Moʿīn-al-Foqarāʾ) and UNESCO 5305 give d. 360/970-71, whereas Iranica JUYBĀRIS (McChesney) states that by the 15th century the shrine commemorated 'a 13th-century Bukharan scholar, Emām Abu Bakr Saʿd'. UNESCO describes him as 'one of the four Abu-Bakrs … descendants of the Prophet Muhammad'; this attribution is reported as the source states it, without judgement by the atlas.
