Abu'l-Abbas Ahmad Zarruq (1442 Fez - 1493 Misrata), founder of the Zarruqiyya branch of the Shadhiliyya, a reformist jurist-Sufi who fused fiqh with Sufism, known as 'inspector of the saints.' He spent his final years in Misrata, where his Zawiya grew into one of Libya's first madrasas. His grave was desecrated in 2012, but the zawiya-mosque still stands and functions.
