Abu'l-Mahasin Jamal al-Din Yusuf ibn Abdullah ibn Umar al-Ajami al-Kurani (al-Gurani) was a great Sufi shaykh renowned for his asceticism, scrupulousness, and piety. He is remembered as the one who revived the path of Junayd al-Baghdadi in Egypt after it had faded, and his order's chain of transmission connects to the Zayniyya and Suhrawardiyya. He secluded himself in a retreat within the Qarafa (Imam al-Shafi'i) Cemetery of Cairo, established numerous lodges, trained many deputies, and authored a treatise on the method of dhikr titled 'Rayhanat al-qulub fi al-tawassul ila al-mahbub'. He died in Cairo in the month of Jumada al-Ula 768 AH (1367 CE) and was buried at his lodge in the Qarafa Cemetery, where his tomb remains a site of visitation.
