One of the great early Sufis of the Tihama (the Zabid region), known by the epithet 'Shams al-Shumus.' The Sufi tradition and hagiography that grew around him left a deep mark on regional popular piety. He died in 651/1253 and is buried in the mosque and shrine named after him in the village of Bayt Ata, al-Zaydiyah district, al-Hudayda, where an annual mawlid is held.
