Shaykh Mahmud (Kozluk)

A saint widely venerated at his tomb in Yukarı Kıratlı village of Kozluk; according to tradition he came from Basra and settled in the region. A weapon called 'Zerk' said to be his is kept at the tomb, and a large pilgrimage is held on the third Friday of May. Because traditions about his era conflict (era of Caliph Umar / roughly 700 years ago), his dating is uncertain and the site carries a maqam/legendary character. Sayyid Shaykh Muhammad Qasim al-Zilani

Son and successor of Mawlana Khalid al-Zilani, a Naqshbandi-Khalidi guide counted as the thirty-sixth link in the Zilan branch of the Khalid al-Jazari chain. He studied under and received authorization from his father, and spent years in spiritual guidance. Shaykh Fakhraddin al-Arnasi

A Naqshbandi-Khalidi scholar and guide, renowned especially for his mastery of Islamic jurisprudence. Born in 1910 in Arnas (Bağlarbaşı) village of Midyat, he received learning and authorization from Shaykh Sayda of Cizre (1955). He served as imam of Batman's Great Mosque and trained many students. Molla Rasul al-Iluhi (Green Tomb)

A self-taught scholar named after İluh, the old name of Batman; according to his tomb inscription he authored a work titled Hayat al-Hilal on the rules of fasting. The inscription, in Turkish and Kurdish, records that he lived from 1868 to 1913. His grave stands in the central Çarşı quarter of Batman on a former cemetery site, popularly known as the 'Green Tomb,' and was left in place even during road construction. Sayyid Shaykh Mawlana Khalid al-Zilani

A sayyid scholar and Naqshbandi-Khalidi guide, founder of the Zilan branch of the Khalid al-Jazari lineage. Born in 1826 in Zilan village (today in Batman province), he studied under scholars such as Molla Khalil al-Siirdi and received authorization from Shaykh Khalid al-Gulpawari. He spent many years in spiritual guidance across southeastern Anatolia. His tomb is in the cemetery of Örmegözü (Kanireval) village, Beşiri; a large commemoration is held each May. Seyyid Bilal Tomb

Seyyid Bilal is a sayyid descended from Hz. Hüseyin, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). According to the tomb inscription he was born in 1132 and died in 1212. He spent his childhood in the Karbala and Baghdad region and around 1154 migrated with his family to Anatolia, settling in Vergili (Becirman) village of the Gercüş district. His square-plan tomb is covered by a main dome surrounded by ten smaller domes, with separate entrances for men and women. With commemoration events held every second Thursday of September, it is among the most active faith-tourism centres of Southeastern Anatolia. Şeyh Fethullah Hamidi Tomb

Şeyh Fethullah Hamidi was a religious scholar and Sufi born in 1873 in the village of Kayapınar (Aynkaf) in the Gercüş district. He belonged to a scholarly family of Prophetic descent with roots in Siirt; his grandfather Hamid Mardini was born in Siirt in 1802 and his father İbrahim Hamidi settled in Kayapınar. Known for the importance he gave to education, he taught students at the Aynkaf Madrasa in the 1940s and was renowned for his tolerance and efforts to establish peace in the region. He died in April 1947 in Sulan village of Beşiri district, and his tomb lies in his birthplace, Kayapınar (Aynkaf). (Sources: Evliyalar.net; Siirt Haberci.)

İmam Abdullah Lodge

İmam Abdullah is reported to be a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), from the line of Hz. Cafer-i Tayyar. In 638 CE (17 AH) he served in the Islamic army under commander İyâz bin Ganem during the conquest of Hasankeyf from Byzantine rule and was martyred during the siege. The zaviye (lodge) over his tomb was built in the 12th century under the Artuqids and repaired under the Ayyubids and Aqqoyunlu. As the site would be flooded by the Ilısu Dam, the structure and his remains were relocated in 2019 to the New Hasankeyf Arkeopark. It is among the most visited shrines in the region.
