Shaykh
A saint believed to be buried in the tomb in the courtyard of the Tabakhane (Şeyh Yusuf) Mosque in Melikahmet neighbourhood, Sur, Diyarbakır, after whom the mosque is named. He is locally said to have been a shaykh who came from Hamadan and settled in the city in the Akkoyunlu period. (Venerated as a figure distinct from the celebrated Central Asian Sufi Yusuf al-Hamadani, teacher of Ahmad Yasawi, whose tomb is in Merv.)
Shaykh
A shaykh of the Gülşeniyye Sufi order believed to be buried in the tomb opposite the Urfa Gate, popularly known as the 'Sarı Saltuk Tomb'. Sources identify the interred figure as Shaykh Sadiq Ali Efendi (d. 961/1553), one of the caliphs of İbrahim Gülşenî, known by the epithet Sarı Sadık.
Prophet (peace be upon him)
One of the prophets named in the Qur'an (al-An'am 86, Sad 48). His tomb in Eğil, Diyarbakır, was relocated together with that of Dhu'l-Kifl in September 1995 to Nebi Harun Hill in Kale neighbourhood, Eğil, owing to the Dicle Dam.
Prophet (peace be upon him)
Counted among the prophets named in the Qur'an (al-Anbiya 85, Sad 48). His shrine in the Eğil district of Diyarbakır, threatened by the Dicle Dam reservoir, was relocated in September 1995 (13-16 Sept.) to Nebi Harun Hill (Ziyaret Tepesi) in Kale neighbourhood of Eğil, where it remains a major pilgrimage site.
Hazrat
According to tradition the son of the famous Companion-commander Khalid ibn al-Walid, said to have been martyred during the conquest of Diyarbakır (Amid) by the army of Iyad ibn Ghanm under Caliph Umar (c. 639 CE). He and the Companions martyred with him are buried in the tomb adjoining the western wall of the Hz. Süleyman (Kale/Nâsıriyye) Mosque in the inner citadel, also known as the 'Tomb of the 27 Companions'.
Hazrat
A 15th-century Turkish Sufi and poet, disciple and successor (khalifa) of Aksemseddin. His most important work is the Vahdetname (1460), a mystical-ethical poem of about 4,250 couplets; he also wrote Munyetu'l-ebrar and a Turkish rendering of al-Busiri's Qasida al-Burda. He died after 888/1483 and is buried in the tomb beside the Misri Mosque in central Afyonkarahisar, built by Kasim Pasha.
Hazrat
A Mevlevi sheikh and divan poet, also known as Semai Mehmed Chelebi and a descendant of Mevlana. As postnishin of the Afyonkarahisar Mevlevi lodge he made the city the foremost center of the Mevlevi order after Konya, founding numerous lodges across Anatolia and beyond. He is buried in the Afyon Mevlevi lodge (his death is generally dated 936/1529).
A Mevlevi shaykh and author appointed shaykh of the Kütahya Mevlevihane in 1102/1690, serving there for forty-six years. He wrote the Mevlevi biographical dictionary Sefine-i Nefise-i Mevleviyan. He died in 1148/1735 and was buried at the Kütahya Mevlevihane (Dönenler Mosque).
A 17th-century Sufi poet born in Kütahya. His father was Müftü Derviş Ahmed Efendi, mufti of Kütahya and a khalifa of Ümmi Sinan. Known for poetry treating Sufi themes such as manifestation (tecelli), the cyclical theory (devir) and the perfect human. He was buried in the Musalla Cemetery in the Meydan neighborhood of Kütahya, where a shrine was built over his grave.
A leading scholar and judge (kadı) of Kütahya during the Germiyanid and early Ottoman period who advised the Germiyanid rulers. His complex (mosque, tomb, zawiya, madrasa and library) is documented in the 825/1422 endowment deed; he was buried in the tomb within his own complex.
A Mevlevi shaykh descended from Mawlana Jalal al-Din Rumi, he was the first postnishin and shaykh of the Kütahya Mevlevi lodge (Erguniyye Dergah). He was buried in the lodge's cemetery, today the Dönenler Mosque.
Sultan
A wandering dervish-saint associated with the qalandari tradition of Anatolia. Numerous tombs and shrines bear his name across Anatolia (Uskudar in Istanbul, Afyon, Manisa, Aydin and others); the structure in Horoz village near Manisa is referred to as a makam (cenotaph). As the location of his actual grave is disputed, no coordinate is given.

A sheikh of the Halwati order who lived in Manisa during the reign of Saruhanoglu Ishak Celebi. His lodge was established on land granted by Ishak Celebi, with an endowment deed (vakfiye) dated 773/1371; his tomb stands in the Sehzadeler district of Manisa, near the rock known as the 'weeping rock' (Niobe).

A Sufi who lived in Akhisar, regarded as the founder of the Iseviyye branch of the Bayramiyya order, which is attributed to him. His son Ilyas (Ibn Isa) was also a Sufi poet. After his death a mosque and tomb were built in his name in Akhisar, and the neighborhood bears his name; he is buried in Akhisar.

A Sufi born in the Marmara district of Akhisar, founder of the Ahmadiyya (middle branch) of the Halwati order. He completed his Sufi training under the Halwati sheikh Alaeddin Ushshaki and was known by the title 'Yigitbasi'. He spent most of his life guiding his order in Manisa, wrote works in plain Turkish, and died in Manisa.

Born in Urfa in 1783, he became sheikh of the Haliliyya branch of the Qadiri order. He guided disciples for many years (about 70) at the lodge within the Mevlid-i Halil (Dergah) Mosque, dying in 1883. His tomb is in the enclosed graveyard in the courtyard of the Mevlid-i Halil Mosque, containing eight graves of him and his family.

A major Sufi who lived in 12th-century Harran. He became among the most respected sheikhs of his era and was visited by Nur al-Din Mahmud Zangi and Saladin. He died in Harran in 581/1185; his tomb stands in a cemetery outside (to the northwest of) the Harran walls.
peace be upon him
A prophet named in the Qur'an. In local Islamic tradition his maqam is in the same village as Prophet Job's tomb (Eyyüpnebi, Viranşehir), about 500 m to the southwest, a site venerated for centuries as the maqam of Elisha and reportedly rebuilt by the Şanlıurfa Governorate.
peace be upon him
A prophet mentioned in the Qur'an, renowned for his patience. In Islamic tradition his maqam (shrine) is in Eyyüpnebi village of the Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa, in the cemetery east of the mosque bearing his name, on the slope of a mound north of the village. The maqam of his wife Rahime Hatun, who patiently cared for him during his illness, lies about 500 m to the northwest. The shrine has been rebuilt/restored by the Şanlıurfa Governorate.

Thirteenth-to-fourteenth-century Sufi poet regarded as the founder of Anatolian Turkish mystical poetry. A document places his birth in 638 AH (1240-41) and his death in 720 AH (1320) at eighty-two. He served for years at the lodge of his master Tapduk Emre. His burial place is disputed; alongside Sarıköy in Eskişehir, the tomb adjoining the Yunus Emre Mosque in Karaman is one of the two most widely accepted sites.

A legendary frontier warrior (gazi) who gained fame during the Umayyad-era border campaigns against Byzantium in the 8th century. Sources report that 'Battal' was a title denoting his heroism and his real name was Abdullah; he is said to have fallen as a martyr around 740. His shrine in the Seyitgazi district of Eskişehir lies at the center of a Seljuk-era complex.
A Naqshbandi-Khalidi spiritual guide from Sivas. He completed his Sufi training under Mustafa Haki and then Mustafa Taki in Tokat and received authorization (hilafet). He died in Sivas on 2 August 1969 and was buried in the courtyard (hazire) of the Sivas Ulu (Grand) Mosque.
A warrior-dervish and companion-in-arms of Battal Gazi; sources describe him as an Umayyad-era ghazi who, by tradition, was martyred near Sivas in 731 CE (113 AH) fighting the Byzantines. Although Sivas folk tradition reveres him as one of the Companions, historical records place him among the tabi'un/ghazis rather than the sahaba. His tomb stands on the 'Yukari Tekke' rocky outcrop in the Kilavuz quarter of Sivas.

Scholar, poet and Sufi born in Zile in 1520, whose given name was Ahmed. He founded the Shamsiyya (later Sivasiyya) branch of the Halvetiyye order. He died in Sivas in 1597 and was buried in the courtyard (hazire) of the Meydan Mosque, where his tomb became an important place of visitation. His works include a Mevlid, Menakib-i Chehar Yar-i Guzin and a Divan.
