A companion of Abyssinian origin; while still a polytheist at Uhud he killed Hamza, then embraced Islam and became known for slaying the false prophet Musaylima. After Yarmuk he settled in Homs, where he died in his final years. In the Bab al-Dreib quarter of old Homs stands the 'Mosque of Wahshi and Thawban' attributed to him. (Sources: TDV 'Vahşî b.
