Abu al-Abbas Ahmad b. Alwan, one of the most renowned Sufis and poets of Lower Yemen, who settled at Yafrus near Taiz. Through his Sufi poetry and hagiography he shaped a strong tradition of popular piety in the region. He died in 665/1267 and is buried in the twin-domed mosque-shrine named after him in the village of Yafrus, southwest of Taiz, a major pilgrimage site.
