It is related, based on historians such as al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, that Abdülvahap Gazi took part in the Anatolian conquests in the Umayyad period and was martyred in 113/731. Several sites are attributed to him across Anatolia; a tomb adjoining the village mosque in Çatbaşı (about 8 km west of central Muş) is ascribed to him.
