A scholar and preacher of the Successor (tabi'i) generation, born and raised in Damascus, renowned for asceticism and piety (d. 110/728 [disputed]). His grave demeanour and moving sermons earned him the epithet "the Hasan al-Basri of the people of Damascus" (TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, "Bilâl b. Sa'd", H. K. Yilmaz). With his powerful voice he served as prayer leader and preacher, emphasizing adherence to Qur'an and Sunna, concern for the hereafter, and asceticism. As the sources do not specify a definite burial site, no pin is given for the grave (transparency note).
