Sayyid Muhammad Rashid Erol

A Naqshbandi-Khalidi scholar and Sufi guide (1930-1993). Born in Baykan, Siirt, he succeeded his father Sayyid Abdulhakim al-Husayni (Gawth of Bilvanis) as spiritual leader and settled in Menzil village of the Kâhta district of Adıyaman. Sayyid Abdulhakim al-Husayni (Gawth of Bilvanis)

A leading Naqshbandi-Khalidi sheikh and successor of Ahmad al-Khaznawi (1902-1972). Born in Baykan, Siirt, he bore the nisba 'al-Husayni' for his descent from Husayn and 'Gawth of Bilvanis' for his residence in Bilvanis village. In his final years he settled in Menzil village of Kâhta, Adıyaman. He died on 25 May 1972 and was buried in Menzil, his tomb forming the heart of the Menzil pilgrimage complex. Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal al-Sulami

A companion of the Prophet from the Banu Sulaym tribe, mentioned in the Ifk incident alongside Aisha and exonerated by Qur'anic verses; he served as the army's rearguard. He is reported to have been wounded and martyred during the conquest of Sumaysat (Samsat) and buried there; his death is dated to 19 AH (640 CE), though some reports place it in the Umayyad era. Hajji Yusuf Efendi

A Sufi figure buried in the Kâhta district of Adıyaman; according to tradition he came from Mecca to Erzincan and then settled in the Kâhta area, dying in 1260. His tomb is in Hacıyusuf (formerly Sarıdana) village: an open türbe of square 5x5 m plan with arched sides dated to the second half of the 13th century, its dome added by villagers in 1987. Makam (Cenotaph) of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari

Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (Abuzer Gaffari) was one of the earliest companions of the Prophet Muhammad, renowned for his asceticism and truthfulness. His actual grave is at al-Rabadha near Medina, where he died (AH 32 / 652 CE). The structure in Ziyaret (Ziyaretpayamlı) village, 5 km east of Adıyaman, is NOT his real grave but a symbolic makam (cenotaph shrine) built in his memory, traditionally attributed to Sultan Murad IV after his Baghdad campaign (1623-1639). It is one of the region's most-visited pilgrimage sites. Mahmut al-Ansari

Mahmut al-Ansari is, by tradition, said to have been a companion of the Ansar lineage from Medina who came to the Hısn-ı Mansur (Adıyaman) region to spread Islam and was martyred there; while details about him are not firmly established, he is an important spiritual figure venerated by locals. His tomb stands on the high Ali Dağı (Ali Mountain) next to Elifli (İpekli) village, about 7 km east of Adıyaman center. The H.1126 (1714 CE) date on the door inscription is taken as a repair date; tradition attributes the structure to Sultan Murad IV after his Baghdad campaign.
