A Persian (of Qom origin) merchant and scholar who settled in the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the early 17th century. Rising through trade and state service, he was appointed the first Chularajmontri (Shaykh al-Islam and royal adviser) of Siam's Muslims under King Songtham. He laid the institutional foundation of the Muslim community in the region and is regarded as the root of the Persian-Shia tradition in Thailand. He died in 1631; his tomb is in Ayutthaya and is a shrine visited by Muslims and local people alike.
