Rahima Khanum is venerated locally as a sister of the eighth Imam Ali al-Rida (Imam Reza). The Nardaran pir is one of Azerbaijan's most important Shia pilgrimage sites, tradition dating it to the 8th century. A large two-storey Rahima Khanum Mosque-Shrine complex was built over the tomb in the late 1990s, the ground floor preserved as the sanctuary. NOTE: the sisterhood-of-Imam-Reza lineage is traditional/devotional and not independently verified. (Sources: English Wikipedia 'Nardaran'; gomap.az pilgrimage POI listing)
