In Islamic tradition the son and successor of Adam, regarded as a prophet to whom scriptures were revealed. His maqam is within the mosque in the village of al-Nabi Shayth in the Beqaa Valley and has a long-established ziyaret tradition. Rival tombs exist (the Nabi Shith Mosque in Mosul, Iraq, and Bashshit in Palestine); the attribution is traditional. The coordinate given is corroborated at the village level.
