Abdülfettah-ı Velî is recorded as a Qādirī sheikh descended from Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, traditionally placed in 13th-century Kastamonu. Around 1272 he founded the Yılanlı complex in central Kastamonu, comprising a hospital, mosque and tomb.
