Muzaffereddin Yavlak Arslan, ruler of the Çobanoğulları principality (r. 1280-1292), advanced the Turkification of Paphlagonia through his campaigns against Byzantium. In 1273 he had the Atabeygazi (Forty-Columned) Mosque built in Kastamonu.
